Getting Killed By AI
When I started this music publication almost 24 years ago the number one was song was "How You Remind Me" (it's an 8) and, much like Nickelback, stereogum.com is somehow still around. But things are gonna look different and work better starting today. The post Getting Killed By AI appeared first on Stereogum. View the full article

Madi Diaz Releases Enema Of The State Covers Album Benefitting Immigration Legal Aid
Enema Of The State was a crucial album to a lot of us growing up, and Madi Diaz is no exception. Last month the Los Angeles singer-songwriter released her new album Fatal Optimist, but it turns out she was working on another project around the same time: a track-by-track reimagining of Blink-182's 1999 classic. Diaz's version is called Enema Of The Garden State -- she recorded it in New Jersey -- and it's exclusively available on Bandcamp, via which proceeds are going to the Defending Our Neighbors Fund. Guess Who’s Reuniting For Their First Tour In 23 Years
In recent years, you could’ve had plenty of chances to go see the Guess Who, the Canadian classic rockers who made hits like “American Woman.” But the version of the Guess Who that you might’ve seen was a Ship Of Theseus situation with no original members. The rights to the name were held by founding bassist Jim Kale and drummer Garry Peterson, both of whom are effectively retired from playing live. Frontman Burton Cummings was not happy about this state of affairs, and he fought hard to regain control of the band’s name. Now, he’s taking the Guess Who back out on tour, and he’s got founding guitarist Randy Bachman with him. View the full article

Hayley Williams Announces Ticket Sales Plan To Avoid Scalpers & Bots
Hayley Williams has done a lot of touring with her band Paramore, but she's never actually been out on the road as a solo artist before. She was supposed to tour in 2020, but COVID fucked everything up. Finally, though, it's about to happen. After releasing her very good new album Ego Death At The Bachelorette Party and jumping up onstage with about a million people, Williams finally announced her first-ever solo tour over the weekend. In March, she'll cross the US and Europe with Water From Your Eyes and Snuggle. With that tour, she's doing her part to push back against the shitty, automated weirdness that has made the concert-ticket landscape so bleak in recent years. Ragana & Drowse – “After Image”
Anytime a record comes out on the Flenser, the Bay Area label that specializes in dark, avant-garde underground music, that record is worth hearing. The forthcoming Ash Souvenir is coming out on the Flenser, and it's from two Flenser artists, so you already know it's going to be something. Ragana, the great Pacific Northwest queer black metal duo, recorded Ash Souvenir with Drowse, a Portland artist who makes music that floats between ambient drone and indie rock. It's an inspired pairing, and Ash Souvenir is a powerful piece of work. The post Ragana & Drowse – “After Image” appeared first on Stereogum. View the full article

Waxahatchee Covers Taylor Swift’s “The Life Of A Showgirl”
About a month ago, Taylor Swift released her new album The Life Of A Showgirl. It sold a bajillion copies right away, and then lots of people hated it. Not me, though. I thought it was good. What? Shut up. Like you don't like anything embarrassing. All the music you like is so cool. Jeez. Anyway. Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield agrees with me, at least to the extent that she's willing to perform that album's title track on a stage, in front of people who might have cameras in their phones. This Is Lorelei – “Holo Boy”
Nate Amos teams with Rachel Brown in Water From Your Eyes, and he used to team with Lily Konigsberg in My Idea (or maybe that band is still active, which would be cool). But he’s also accumulated a prolific solo catalog under the alias This Is Lorelei. Last year This Is Lorelei experienced a massive glow-up by signing to the esteemed indie label Double Double Whammy and releasing the instant classic album Box For Buddy, Box For Star. That was sort of his Teens Of Denial, and now he’s gone back and made his Teens Of Style, re-recording some of the best tracks from his DIY Bandcamp era for a new album called Holo Boy.
