Watch Big Thief’s Big Band Play “Grandmother” On Fallon
On Monday night, James Corden was the main guest on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show. They did a bit where they went back and forth singing showtunes. Can you imagine? Let’s not imagine. Let’s just keep it moving. Life is hard enough as it is. And anyway, the poor unfortunate souls in last night’s Tonight Show studio audience at least got a Big Thief performance out of it. That’s got to count for something, right? View the full article

Watch Tame Impala Bring Live Debuts, Justice Cover To Brooklyn Tour Opener
Tame Impala’s new album Deadbeat doesn’t seem to be anyone’s favorite Tame Impala record, but that hasn’t stopped the band from filling arenas or from scoring their first-ever Hot 100 hit. On Monday night, Kevin Parker kicked off his American arena tour by headlining Brooklyn’s Barclays Center — the first gig in a four-night stand at that venue. (“What tour?” he joked. “The world tour.”) The show was Tame Impala’s first full-on public performance in a couple of years, and they played 10 of the 12 songs from Deadbeat. For some of those songs, it was Tame Impala’s first time performing them in any kind of public setting. For others, it was the band’s first time performing them at all, in any context. Oneohtrix Point Never – “Measuring Ruins”
The persistently-busy Daniel Lopatin will release Tranquilizer, his latest Oneohtrix Point Never album, in a few weeks. It’s a whopping 15 tracks total; three of which he shared alongside the album announcement, and today he’s back with another one called “Measuring Ruins.” It begins as a peaceful, structureless drone that gradually crescendoes into something more grand with rattling percussion and blasts of noise. Watch Yoshi Sodeoka’s video for the song below. View the full article

Love Remain Announces New Mixtape With Every Cloud: Hear “Calm” (Feat. Jawnino)
UK producer Love Remain has a new mixtape on the way, and in this case mixtape seems to mean “not long enough to be an album, not short enough to be an EP.” It’s called With Every Cloud, and I’m not seeing a release date for it just yet. What I am seeing is “Calm,” a moodily booming collaboration with rising UK rapper Jawnino. View the full article

Make Time For Making Time
Philadelphia is not widely considered a hotbed for dance culture — it is better associated with punky, DIY grit. One key exception is Making Time, a lifeline for adventurous showgoers in the City of Brotherly Love. Founder David Pianka (AKA DJ Dave P.) was employed at a coffee shop in the 1990s, which put him in the orbit of local bands. For his first foray into music, he invited them to play a party. “Each floor had a different genre,” he remembers. “It was a one-off that we were going to do with our friends. It wasn’t meant to be a party for 25 years.” Named after a song by the Creation, the series endured. By the time the Strokes played in 2001, Making Time was a precocious institution. The Cars Ready Final Songs With Ric Ocasek, Get New Biography And Tribute Concert
It’s hard to imagine a Cars revival because the Cars never really go away. The great new wave band released their final album, the reunion LP Move Like This, in 2011, and frontman Ric Ocasek passed away in 2019, just one year after the band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. But the band’s classics endure, and they never fall out of rotation. Last month, the author and Buffalo Tom frontman Bill Janovitz published The Cars: Let The Stories Be Told, his book about the band, and it includes some information about as-yet-unreleased Cars music that may soon see the light of day.
