They’re three for three! Next week, the great Texan DIY garage-punks Radioactivity will release Time Won’t Bring Me Down, their first new album in a full decade. They have not lost a step. We posted the title track and “Why,” and both of them are fucking jams. The same is true of “Analog Ways,” which is presumably the last song they’ll share before the LP. Equipment Pointed Ankh Announce New Album Eggs A Little Late: Hear “The Shelbyville Codes”
Equipment Pointed Ankh is a Louisville-based ensemble featuring, among other talents, Ryan Davis and members of his Roadhouse Band. They’re about to follow up 2023’s adventurous Downtown with another stack of instrumentals called Eggs A Little Late. Lead single “The Shelbyville Codes,” shared this week, cruises throughout a colorfully morphing backdrop with a playful spirit. Obviously You’re Going To Listen To Frances Quinlan & Kyle Pulley’s Debut Parts Work EP
Those who’ve been missing Hop Along were recently blessed by the news that Frances Quinlan, the band’s peerless lead singer and songwriter, had started a new project. Parts Work pairs Quinlan with Kyle Pulley, a Hop Along contributor also known for his band Thin Lips. They shared debut single “Trenton” about a month ago, and today three more songs have followed in the form of a self-titled EP which suggests that, yes, these parts really do work. There’s this guy named Orlando Higginbottom, right? As in: That’s his real name. Many years ago, Higginbottom started producing moody, pretty dance music under then name Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Later this year, Higginbottom will release his new album Always With Me, and he’s doing it under a different name. Sometime recently, Higginbottom shortened his Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs moniker to just plain TEED. Congratulations to TEED for currently having the best name that he has ever had. The prolific experimental black metal greats Krallice have a pair of new tracks on deck today. “Inner Peace” is a nearly eight-minute strand of knotty noise-metal, while “Protean Pulse” is almost 16 minutes of foreboding synth textures that patiently builds intensity throughout. It wouldn’t be the Halloween season if we didn’t get new music from the bugged-out underground rap expressionist Fatboi Sharif. Sharif came from the wilds of New Jersey with a truly singular sound, and he was a Stereogum Artist To Watch in 2021. Last year, Sharif released Brain Candy, a collaborative album with Fat Tony and Steel Tipped Dove. Katie & Allison Crutchfield Tease New Music With MJ Lenderman, Anna St. Louis, & Brad Cook
The Crutchfield crew is up to something. Last week, the interconnected crew of twin sisters Katie and Allison Crutchfield, MJ Lenderman, and Brad Cook all shared some Polaroids on their respective Instagram accounts. The photos showed the four of them standing together in front of a wall and then putting their hands together like a sports team getting ready to take the field.
