  7. Last year, Haircut 100 announced their first album since 1984’s Paint And Paint. 8. A cybersquatter has been occupying slipknot.com for over two decades, allegedly using the URL to advertise counterfeit merchandise for the metal band. Slipknot are only now suing for the domain name. View the full article
  9. The last time we heard from the ever-elusive Sky Ferreira was when she released “Leash” for the Babygirl soundtrack last year. The press release stated that her long-awaited sophomore album Masochism was “set for launch,” and then nothing happened. This came shortly after she detailed getting dropped from Capitol Records and said she was “working to try and get some of those songs back” from the label. Last night, though, the alt-pop enigma joined Smerz in Los Angeles at the Regent Theater for “You got time and I got money.” View the full article

  12. David Berman died on my birthday. I found out about Berman’s passing in the early evening, while I was out for ice cream with my wife and kids in the suburbs of Columbus, OH. When we got home, I grabbed my laptop and threw together whatever reverent, sentimental, hopefully accurate and insightful words I could for Stereogum’s obituary. Like so many, I was gobsmacked. 13. A month ago, 26-year old multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Jacoby released his incredibly catchy single “The One.” He’s actually released plenty of captivating tracks this year alone, and he’s not finished yet. Today, he’s back with another called “baby,” a lovely dose of cozy R&B with a wormy bass line, subtle string embellishments, and a snug drumbeat. View the full article
  14. Today, Ayra Starr and Rema — two of Nigeria’s biggest chart-topping singer-songwriters — have teamed up for “Who’s Dat Girl?” The collab follows their surprise joint performance at last month’s Global Citizen Festival in New York City. The new single is sure to be filling up the sweaty dance floors we’ll be flocking to as the temperature drops. “Who’s Dat Girl” is a hip-swaggering dancehall heater that was produced by Ragee with additional production by The Elements. 15. This weekend Sabrina Carpenter will be both the host and the musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and then the show will take a week off before returning for three episodes in November. Today they’ve revealed the hosts and musical guests for those shows. View the full article
  16. In 2023, the beautifully scrambled Detroit rapper Veeze released Ganger. That’s a good album. I know some people who would even tell you that it’s one of the 100 best rap albums of all time. Maybe there’s a follow-up in the works. Last month, Veeze released his single “L.O.A.T.” and made a handful of songs on a viral stream with Rob49 and Plaqueboymax. He’s got another new single out today. View the full article
  17. In 2023, inventive underground rap rule-smashers JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown teamed up to release the convulsive collaborative project Scaring The Hoes, and it was one of that year’s best albums. Not long after Scaring The Hoes came out, two two rappers released four extra songs on their DLC Pack. Since then, both JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown have released solo albums, and Brown’s latest, the glitchy hyperpop experiment Stardust, is coming out in just a few weeks. But now, we’re apparently getting more Scaring The Hoes bonus tracks on a new deluxe edition. View the full article
  18. Is it possible that Tori Amos is not just a great singer-songwriter — that she is also a flavor innovator? More specifically, is there any chance that Tori Amos is the true inventor of the pumpkin spice latte, the Starbucks drink that has become more of a general all-around symbol for basic bitchery? 19. If you have kids, you’ve heard it. If anyone says the words “six” or “seven” out loud around them, they’re like “six sevvvennn?” They might say that if someone mentions any numbers. They say it with such dead, monotonous affect. It’s not a joke, exactly. Nobody ever laughs. It’s just a thing that they do. Imagine being an elementary school math teacher right now. It must just be a constant call-and-response with these little weirdos. I cannot possibly explain how “6 7” became the Pavlovian verbal meme that it is today, but I can tell you how it spread: TikTok videos of basketball players, especially LaMelo Ball, set to audio from Philadelphia rapper Skrilla’s song “Doot Doot (6 7).” View the full article
  20. On Tuesday Paper Club, Scotland’s Brògeal show you all the bands they can be. The way the quintet encounters sound is the way they encounter thirst. “And when you get fed up of the stout, move on to the wine!/ Join the Tuesday Paper Club, there’s solace in the news/ If that don’t quite cut it, there’s solace in the booze!” goes one boisterous line on the title track. 21. What’s the greatest rap crew of all time? There are a bunch of valid answers to that question. One of the leading candidates would have to be the Wu-Tang Clan, who just finished a triumphant farewell tour. Now, Wu-Tang mastermind RZA has turned his attention to one of the other greatest rap crews in history, the Juice Crew. View the full article
  22. Lily Allen is a huge influence on the current generation of conversational, gleefully messy pop stars, but she hasn’t released any music of her own in a while. No Shame, her most recent album, came out back in 2018. But Allen has remained culturally present in different ways: Publishing a memoir, hosting a podcast, selling a vibrator, acting in big productions on London’s West End, defending the entire idea of nepo babies. Now, she’s finally ready to return with a new album. View the full article
  23. It’s only been a week since we learned Haim were releasing a deluxe version of this year’s long-awaited I quit. Upon announcing the expanded LP, they shared one of three bonus tracks, a new Bon Iver collab called “Tie You Down.” The full deluxe is out today, which means we get two more new Haim songs.
