  2. Oneohtrix Point Never is back up in this shit. In a couple of weeks, Daniel Lopatin will take a break from his busy film-soundtrack and outside production schedule to release his own album Tranquilizer, inspired by his discovery of an archive of ’90s commercial-music sample CDs. Lopatin plans to release a lot of Tranquilizer tracks before the LP drops. He shared three songs when he made the announcement, and then he followed them up with “Measuring Ruins” last week. Today, Lopatin shares “Cherry Blue,” another piece that’ll appear on Tranquilizer. View the full article
  3. No Pressure are an interesting band. Parker Cannon, frontman for big-deal pop-punkers the Story So Far, started No Pressure as a side project during COVID, and they’ve since become a big deal on the hardcore festival circuit despite not really being a hardcore band. Cannon’s bandmates mostly come from the hardcore world, and the group plays hardcore shows and records for hardcore labels, but they mostly specialize in a slightly amped-up version of the kind of pop-punk that Cannon makes with his other band. In making music just a little more raw and scrappy than what he does most of the time, Cannon has hit on something. View the full article

  9. The great hardcore-centric festival Outbreak returns to Manchester, England for its 15th year next June. Today they’ve unveiled their initial 2026 lineup, and unsurprisingly, it turns out that Outbreak will continue their streak of good lineups into 2026: Along with topliners Alexisonfire (performing Crisis in full for its 20th anniversary), Basement, Suicidal Tendencies, Hatebreed, Converge, and Trapped Under Ice, the smaller-font artists include plenty of Stereogum favorites like Pup, Touché Amoré, Hi Vis, La Dispute, the Armed, Fiddlehead, and more. 10. Deftones, still pretty fresh off the release of their August album private music, hosted and headlined their annual Día De Los Deftones festival at San Diego’s Petco Park yesterday, capping off a sick lineup that included Clipse, Deafheaven, Rico Nasty, and more. Deftones’ set included live debuts of a handful of songs off their new LP — “locked club,” “souvenir,” “cut hands,” and “i think about you all the time” — as well as “Street Carp,” a White Pony track they hadn’t performed since 2019. 13. Dijon recently began his tour in support of Baby, his very good new album from this summer. A few lifetimes ago, Justin Bieber, too, released some star-making music called “Baby.” Now Dijon and Justin Bieber are collaborators and I think that’s beautiful. For his own new albums SWAG and SWAG II, Bieber clearly took a lot of inspiration from Dijon, enlisting the ascendant R&B star as a co-producer and co-writer on some tracks. One of those tracks is SWAG highlight “Yukon,” and although it’s Bieber’s tune, Dijon performed it himself live for the first time at his Portland concert last night. View the full article

  16. Geese are currently on tour in support of their excellent new album Getting Killed, and it’s been an eventful one so far: Last week in Colorado, the Brooklyn band raffled off the remains of a flat tire they endured in transit, with proceeds going to the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition. On Halloween night, Geese played in San Diego, and they celebrated by doing a few “imitations” (as frontman Cameron Winter called them) of the Velvet Underground and the Stooges. 17. Brandi Carlile just released her new album Returning To Myself, which she co-produced with Aaron Dessner, Justin Vernon, and Andrew Watt. She was also the musical guest on a Miles Teller-hosted episode of SNL last night, her fourth time doing so; she most recently did a joint appearance with Elton John back in April, and also performed on SNL50: The Homecoming Concert a few weeks prior. This time around, Carlile performed Returning To Myself tracks “Human” and “Church & State.” View the full article
