Magdalena Bay Share Two More New Songs, “Unoriginal” & “Black-Eyed Susan Climb,” And Halloween Makeup Tutorial
When we caught up with Magdalena Bay at Primavera Sound a few months back, they joked that one approach to following up last year’s acclaimed Imaginal Disk would be to simply never release another album. Based on recent activity, maybe they are actually following that strategy by simply doling out songs two by two rather than combining them into a full-length statement. The alt-pop duo has been releasing new songs in pairs this fall: first “Second Sleep” and “Star Eyes,” then “Human Happens” and “Paint Me A Picture.” Today, they’ve got two more tracks for us. Neko Case On Ending Tennessee Show Early Due To Armed Guards: “That One Fucked Me Up”
A few weeks back, Neko Case ended a show in Tennessee after just a few songs due to her discomfort with security guards whose guns were prominently in view. At the time, Case did not comment on the incident, while a rep for the venue, the Caverns, offered a statement. “When the tour manager requested that our licensed armed security be moved to the back of the house, we immediately made that accommodation after determining that guest and artist safety would not be compromised,” the venue spokesperson wrote. “Unfortunately, we did not receive this request until after the show had begun. We were surprised and disappointed when the artist chose to end the performance early and not return to the stage.” View the full article

For Better And Sometimes Worse, Dave’s New Album Takes You To Church
If Dave were a lazy self-mythologizer instead of a meticulous craftsman, he could’ve just called his new album Confession. Over the course of the 48-minute LP — which is actually titled The Boy Who Played The Harp — the 27-year-old Londoner turns stanzas into tense self-interrogations, exploring themes of regret and personal evolution with the unsparing clarity of a wise but mercifully unpretentious clergyman. His wordplay, thematic symmetry, and emotional commitment make it fairly engrossing, even if the muted production can leave you staring at your iPhone waiting for mass to be over. Director Sam Mendes is making four separate Beatles biopics, one for each member, for release in 2028. Back in the spring, we learned who would star as each Beatle: Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. More recently, news came out that Saoirse Ronan would star as Linda (Eastman) McCartney. Now we know who’ll play the wives of the other three lads. View the full article
