Lankum – “Ghost Town” (The Specials Cover)
Here’s your actually-freaky Halloween soundtrack. Lankum, Dublin’s masters of doom-laden experimental folk music, have covered 2-tone kings the Specials’ 1981 spooky ska classic “Ghost Town.” Lankum originally recorded the cover for Oona Doherty’s dance show Specky Clark this year. Now, just in time for All Hallow’s Eve, it gets a music video by director Leonn Ward, filmed in County Wicklow. It basically sounds like the trailerized version of “Ghost Town,” but good. Oklou Shares Three New Songs On Choke Enough Deluxe, Plays Tiny Desk Concert
If you have not yet spent any time with Oklou’s Choke Enough album, I recommend that you remedy that situation quickly. The French singer and producer released her LP earlier this year, and it was #1 on our mid-year list. Choke Enough is a gorgeous blur — all these cooler-than-thou rave and pop sounds refracted through one person’s internal prism, made to sound small and personal and evocative. Today, Oklou releases her Choke Enough deluxe edition. Deluxe editions often seem like cash-grabs, but this feels more like an opportunity to dive a little deeper into the world of that album. How long can you go without music?
I listen to music almost every minute of the day. I always have my station streaming in the background so I can listen for any anomalies. But even if I didn't have the station, I would be listening to music most of the day

Favorite On-Air Jingle – Should We Bring Back the 80s Remix?
Exactly mate! The 80's was the decade that had everything. I remember the sound of those 80's radio show dj's and the old skool jingles. I miss those days so much man.

Watch Faye Webster Sing With The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Faye Webster loves the orchestra. In 2022, the viral indie darling unveiled Car Therapy Sessions, an EP of orchestral reimaginings of previously released songs of hers. Last year, she released her latest record, which was called Underdressed At The Symphony. Now she’s appropriately dressed at the symphony for her performances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. VIAL – “Idle Hands”
Minneapolis punks VIAL released their full-length burnout last year. A few months ago, they followed it with a fun single called “Creep Smoothie.” Today, they unleash their new song “Idle Hands,” which seems to be a one-off single for now. It’s a hooky blast of grunge-pop, and I like it a lot. I probably like the video even more. View the full article

Real Housewives Superfan Chris Baio Makes His Bravo Debut
Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio is a huge fan of the Real Housewives franchise. Last year, after publicly extending an invite to the cast of The Real Housewives Of Salt Lake City, the show’s Heather Gay joined the band onstage for a game of cornhole during their Kilby Block Party set. Although Baio has put a lot of thought into what his opening-credits tagline would be if he was a housewife, he’s yet to appear on the show himself. Yesterday, however, he accomplished the next best thing: being a bartender on an episode of Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, with RHOSLC fan-favorite Lisa Barlow in attendance. Melody’s Echo Chamber – “Eyes Closed”
For many years, the French artist Melody Prochet has been making gorgous psych-pop under the name Melody’s Echo Chamber. Show Me The Body’s Harlan Steed Shares Debut Solo Single “Meet Me In The Graveyard”
Show Me The Body bassist Harlan Steed is making his solo debut. You can never know what to expect with the raucous NYC band, so it would be hard to guess what Steed’s lone foray would be. It turns out, at least for today’s “Meet Me In The Graveyard,” he’s going full goth. View the full article

It’s been a while since we last heard from Now, Now. Then KC Dalager made her solo debut as KC Rae. But now the band is back with a surprise EP called 01. View the full article

Luigi Mangione Has Been Listening To Taylor Swift And Charli XCX In Jail
We now have evidence that Luigi Mangione may have had himself a Brat summer. Back in May the internet’s favorite alleged murderer turned 27 years old in jail, where he’s still facing second-degree murder charges following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson last December. Apparently, Mangione celebrated his birthday with a list of 27 things he’s grateful for. At the bottom of that list are a couple of honorable mentions: Taylor Swift and Charli XCX. Gumm – “One Thing At A Time”
Look, the world is a cold, confusing, and chaotic place. You think you’ve got things figured out, and then some new burst of nonsense comes along and fucks everything up. But once in a while, things will come together and tie themselves into a bow. You’ll be reading the ‘Gum, and you’ll encounter new songs from GUM and Gumm on the same day. Don’t overlook the little things like that. They can make all the difference. View the full article

Navy Blue Announces New Album The Sword & The Soaring: Hear “Orchards”
Sage Elsesser is one of those people whose resume makes him almost annoyingly cool. He’s a pro skateboarder, multidisciplinary artist, and occasional model from Los Angeles, and he raps and produces under the name Navy Blue. He’s part of the same lo-fi and casually heady underground rap universe as people like MIKE and Pink Siifu, and he’s collaborated with Earl Sweatshirt a bunch of times. Last year, Navy Blue’s LP Memoirs In Armour landed in our Album Of The Week column. Next month, Navy Blue will follow that one with a new record called The Sword & The Soaring. View the full article

The Bruce Springsteen Movie Is Totally Inaccurate With Regard To His Feelings About Mustard
The pretty bad but fun-to-watch new biopic Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is in theaters now, and it mostly seems pretty factually faithful to Springsteen’s experience recording the album Nebraska. But any work of biography is at least partly a work of fiction, and Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere seemingly includes at least one glaring lie about Springsteen’s choice in condiments. In the movie, Springsteen says that he likes mustard. In real life, Springsteen hates mustard. View the full article
