What do you make of musicians claiming their songs were inspired by ghosts?

I've read a couple of reports in the past about musicians laying claims that their songs were inspired by ghosts or a kind of paranormal activity. Robbie Williams, for example, once said that his popular song "Angels" was recorded because of his awareness of the presence of an unseen creature.

We've had other musicians such as Michael Jackson and Justin Bieber sing songs that relate to ghosts. Do you believe that some of them really got inspired by an unseen force before creating these songs or not?

Well, it's possible to draw inspiration from anything or anywhere. Also, spirits/ghosts are absolutely real, so there's a possibility of someone whom they visit getting inspired by their interactions. HP Lovecraft writes horror books about demons and spiritual entities. He's definitely being inspired by spirits.

That is what I think as well because there is a possibility that they were inspired by an unforseen force that pushes them to create those kinds of songs.

We all know Kendrick Lamar. According to him, in a 2015 interview with Home Grown Radio, he stated that the ghost of Tupac Shakur visited him in a dream and said to him "keep doing what you're doing, don’t let my music die."

It was the encounter that inspired the closing track "Mortal Man" in his 2015 album "To Pimp a Butterfly".

Yeah, that's very correct. I know that spiritual forces exist in our world and they are capable of doing anything. Someone can be possesed by a ghost and he writes an incredible song. It can happen in the dream too.

I’ve heard stories like that. Some artists say they dreamt of lyrics or heard voices giving them tunes. I don’t totally believe it, but I won't say it's a lie either. Music sometimes feels spiritual, like it’s not from this world.

Thanks for this take as I've read a couple of reports where artists talk about getting inspirations from beyond to perform their songs.

If anyone have watched the movie named Sinners, something very similar to what we are discussing happened in the movie. It shows the relationship some spirits have with music. They appreciate quality songs and can give inspirations too.

I've watched so many documentaries where some artists admit to selling their soul to the devil in exchange for fame and success with their music.

They had a similar thing acted in the TV show Supernaturals where musicians go to the cross road demons and make a deal to sell their soul to the devil for fame and glory.

I remember one local artist back home that said he wrote his hit song after seeing a shadow in his room at night 😅. People laughed, but the song was a hit. So who knows? Inspiration can come from anywhere. Ghost or no ghost, as long as the jam is sweet, we will still dance to it.

The fans would always think these artists are blabbing while in reality, they are saying it as they felt it. When you listen to such songs, it is even always clear what it is all about.

This sounds very interesting. I would love to listen to the song and see what he was able to cook with that interaction with the shadow. What's the name of the song and the artist's name?

Fans are welcome to have their own opinions about a song and the reason behind it. Personally, I don't think it's easy to write a song, sing it and finally publish it. This is why I appreciate any artist's effort even if the song comes out bad.

You are right about how difficult it is to create songs. However, a lot of fans don't get to bother about all of that and would always demand the best when it comes to the quality of the songs that they get to listen to.

Although, the reason why I don't blame some fans when they are being entitled is because they are the ones who make those artists famous and rich. If fans don't listen to their songs, the artists would have any breakthrough. This is why when they criticise, I'm open to it.

Honestly I think that kind of thing is really interesting. I’m not sure if I truly believe in ghosts but getting ideas for music from something mysterious sounds pretty cool. Maybe it’s just their imagination, or maybe something else but either way it makes their music more interesting.
