With so much focus on production and beats nowadays, do lyrics still play as big a role for you?

Personally, I think good lyrics can elevate even a simple melody into something unforgettable.

What do you think — are we in a ‘beat over meaning’ era?

I am still convinced that lyrics play a big in some genre of music. Take for instance, you can't be taken seriously as a rap musician if you don't have deep lyrics that align with the beats. So, for that reason, I think that lyrics are still very important in the music industry.

This is what some people don't understand yet. The belief that a good beat is everything has changed the landscape of what good music is all about.

Lyrics is the second side of a coin in music. A song isn't complete without its lyrics, this is why lyrics defines the song. The beats are meaningless without the lyrics. Personally, I pay attention to the beats first before focusing more on the lyrics.

Songs without lyrics? Is it even possible? Unless it's a freestyle song in the studio, all songs have lyrics. I do my best to understand every word in a song's lyrics because I want to know what I'm vibing to.

I normally make use of Spotify to get lyrics of song I'm listening to but I found out that there are some songs which doesn't have their lyrics displaying on Spotify when I'm playing the song.

What could really be the cause?

Yes I think lyrics still matter a lot. Even if the beat or melody is great.. because words can make a song really meaningful.
